Terminal 1 is the first element to be built on the site of CDG international airport. It has since undergone several renovations. It was inaugurated on March 8, 1974 by Prime Minister Pierre Messmer.

Its construction was decided in 1964 following the decision of the Council of Ministers to build a second international airport near Paris, after Orly airport. The plans for Terminal 1 were drawn by the architect Paul Andreu. Construction work began 4 years later on the Roissy site, located 25 kilometers north of Paris.

On March 13, 1974 at 6 a.m., the first commercial flight landed on the CDG tarmac: it was the TWA airline's B747 departing from NYC.

As soon as it was put into service, Air France moved there with its legendary planes: the Boeing 747 from 1974, and in 1976, the Concorde.

The T1, a futuristic architecture

The Roissy terminal was, at the time, avant-garde due to its automated system for transporting baggage from the plane to the conveyor belt (obsolete for several years because it was too slow) and its futuristic architecture. Its rounded shape quickly earned it the nickname "camembert". At the time, the most modern airport in Europe, CDG was able to expand thanks to its large surface area and its evolving concept, which saw the development of other terminals.
