Frankfurt am Main Airport (German: Flughafen Frankfurt am Main) (IATA code: FRA • ICAO code: EDDF), located in Frankfurt am Main, is the main German airport. It is also the third airport in Europe serving the largest number of international destinations behind London-Heathrow airport and Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle airport. It is managed by the company Fraport AG, which gave it its nickname, while the protest movements of the period 1964-1984 earned it the other nickname of Flughafen Frankfurt / Main AG.

1930s

Opened in 1935 as the Rhine-Main Airport and Naval Air Station, it has grown to become one of the continent's leading airports. The airport has two terminals, connected by a two-kilometer-long SkyLine. The southern part of the airport was occupied until December 2005 by the United States Air Force's Rhein-Main Air Base.
